The cost of a safety management company depends on the scope of services, number of sites, workforce size, and whether you need software, consulting, or a fully managed program. For most businesses, partnering with a safety management company is significantly less expensive than hiring, training, and retaining a full-time in-house safety team when you factor in salary, benefits, and overhead. A safety management company is a third-party EHS firm that provides outsourced safety programs, OSHA compliance support, safety training, and incident management for businesses in high-risk industries. Instead of building and staffing an in-house safety department, companies hire a safety management firm to design, implement, and oversee their safety program on an ongoing basis. SafetyPlus is a safety management company serving construction, energy, manufacturing, transportation, and other high-risk industries nationwide.
An EHS consulting firm helps businesses identify, manage, and reduce environmental, health, and safety risks through expert guidance, compliance program development, and ongoing oversight. Services typically include OSHA compliance audits, safety program design, safety training delivery, incident investigation, DOT compliance management, and regulatory reporting support. Unlike a staffing firm that places individual safety professionals, an EHS consulting firm like SafetyPlus brings a full team of experts, industry-specific experience, and proprietary software to every client engagement.
Whether you need a full-time safety manager depends on your workforce size, incident history, industry risk level, and regulatory exposure. As a general rule, OSHA recommends dedicated safety staff for workforces above 100 employees in high-hazard industries — but the cost of a full-time hire (salary, benefits, training, turnover) often exceeds $120,000 per year. Many companies find that partnering with a safety management company like SafetyPlus delivers broader expertise, better technology, and stronger compliance outcomes at a lower total cost than a single in-house hire.
Contractor prequalification software is a platform that automates the process of collecting, reviewing, and scoring contractor compliance data before vendors are approved to work on your site. It replaces manual spreadsheets and email chains with a structured digital workflow that captures insurance certificates, EMR scores, safety records, and training documentation from every contractor. SafetyPlus CQ is contractor prequalification software built for companies that manage multiple vendors across multiple sites and need a defensible, auditable qualification process.
Contractor qualification software works by sending contractors a customizable questionnaire and document checklist through an online portal. Contractors submit their safety records, certificates of insurance, EMR scores, and other required documentation directly into the system. The platform then automatically reviews submissions against your pre-set criteria, scores each contractor, and categorizes them as approved, conditionally approved, or failed — eliminating manual review time and generating a complete audit trail for every vendor decision.
EMR, or Experience Modification Rate, is a numerical score calculated by insurance carriers that measures a company's workplace injury history relative to other businesses of the same size and industry. A score of 1.0 is the industry average; below 1.0 means fewer-than-average claims and typically results in lower insurance premiums, while above 1.0 signals higher risk and increases costs. EMR is also used by general contractors and project owners as a contractor prequalification criterion — a high EMR can disqualify you from bidding on certain projects entirely.
Lowering your EMR score requires a sustained reduction in workplace incidents, workers' compensation claims, and claim costs over a three-year period, since EMR is calculated on a rolling three-year claims history. The most effective strategies include implementing a formal safety training program, conducting regular site audits, creating a near-miss reporting culture, managing return-to-work programs aggressively to control claim costs, and ensuring all incidents are properly documented and investigated. SafetyPlus works with clients specifically to reduce EMR through managed safety programs, audits, and incident management — contact us to see how we've helped companies lower their scores.
An OSHA compliance program is a documented, systematic approach to identifying workplace hazards, meeting regulatory requirements, training employees, and maintaining the records OSHA requires for inspection. A complete program typically includes a written safety plan, hazard communication (HazCom), emergency action procedures, recordkeeping (OSHA 300 logs), and industry-specific standards relevant to your operations under 29 CFR 1910 (general industry) or 29 CFR 1926 (construction). SafetyPlus helps companies design, implement, and maintain OSHA compliance programs tailored to their industry and risk profile.
When OSHA issues a citation, you have 15 working days from receipt to either pay the penalty, correct the violation and notify OSHA, or formally contest the citation. The first step is to request an informal conference with the OSHA area director — this is almost always worth doing, as it frequently results in reduced penalties, extended abatement deadlines, or reclassified violation types without formal litigation. If the citation is serious or the penalty is significant, working with an experienced EHS consulting firm like SafetyPlus during the informal conference process can significantly reduce your exposure.
A safety audit is a systematic, documented evaluation of a company's safety programs, physical work environment, and compliance with OSHA regulations to identify gaps, hazards, and areas for improvement. Audits can be internal (conducted by your own safety staff) or external (conducted by a third-party safety consulting firm), and they typically result in a written report with prioritized corrective actions. SafetyPlus conducts professional safety audits for businesses in construction, manufacturing, energy, and other high-risk industries — providing an objective compliance gap analysis and a clear roadmap for remediation.
